We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiayanna Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatiayanna, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?

My favorite quote comes from Shirley Chisholm. She was the first Black woman to campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 1972 and her slogan was “Unbought and Unbossed.” Shirley Chisholm stated that she would always be a catalyst for change.

As a female entrepreneur, this slogan has given me the strength to move forward without compromise in my business. At one point women couldn’t vote and didn’t have a voice. But like Shirley Chisholm, I am proud to be a catalyst for change. Women can be successful by empowering, a number of positive characteristics that can observed in the way they serve their communities.

What should our readers know about your business?

Purple48 Hair Collection & more LLC is a women owned and operated hair and fashion business. The name came from a biblical meaning, the color purple is mentioned in the bible 48 times. A very unique name, with a hidden message. Purple represents royalty and I want women to feel beautiful without compromising their character.

We sell haircare products and hair extensions. My hair extensions come from India, Vietnam and Cambodia. Unlike some companies, I have a personal relationship with all my vendors. This way I’m able to give my customers could quality hair without breaking the bank. We also have partnered with other reputable companies within our haircare department. Which has enhanced our growth.

One of the main struggles with being a startup business, is getting funding. I had to establish my company first and then build business credit. A lot of banks will not fund or invest in any project.l, so presenting yourself with the proper credentials has helped build and increase my finances.

Purple48 has been able to expand from selling wigs and hair extensions to women’s fashion and makeup. I continue to build and expand on the products we sell, by adding value to needs of all women. Purple48 is marketable to all women not categorized my race.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc. The Dallas-Fort Worth area has many exciting things to see and do. But I live more on the Forth Worth side, so I would entertain my best Friend here.

We would go visit the Stock Yards for a pub crawl, Fort Worth water garden, Kimball Art Museum, Sundance Square, Phantom ghost tours and Bass Hall.

Go shopping during the day off West 7th street. We can also eat and drink since it has a long stretch of restaurants, such as Angelo’s, Chimy’s Cerveceria, Bahama Bucks.

For movies we would go to Coyote Drive Inn.

Four Day Weekend is a improv comedy club and Hyena’s Comedy club.

Scat Jazz lounge is a great night club for relaxing jazz music.
These places are amazing and awesome. A must do in Fort Worth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My shoutout would go to Shirley Chisholm for her encouraging words “Unbossed and Unbothered” which began my journey to step out and open my own business. However, my daughter Lexine has been my support partner. Being a soloprenuer , can prove to be challenging both mentally and physically. My daughter has helped me to focus on my goals and reminds me, why I’m doing this.

Children are especially difficult when it comes to bathing, what more when you have to wash their hair! Once your child is more comfortable in the bath, then you can start to introduce hair washing. I have left off washing my daughter’s hair for a while, until necessary, but she still goes mad.

The typical hair and hair follicles of those of African descent are tightly curled, thus producing hair that spirals. Black hair also typically has a larger diameter than Caucasian hair and retains less water, thus its relative “kinkiness.” The many styling methods utilized on Black hair cause concern with hair loss. Black hair is very strong, fortunately so because Black hair styles cause a great deal of stress on the hair and scalp.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiayanna Jones. Hi Tatiayanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself. I started my business during the pandemic in 2020. I was temporarily laid-off and uncertain of when I was to return back to work. My eyes were opened to the reality, that being an employee and working for someone else, is a world of dependency of a company paycheck. I started trying to make masks at first. But I’m not a seamstress so that turned out terrible. Unable to get my hair done, I started thinking about wigs! Wigs have definitely come a long way in the past 20 years. Women can actually do their own hair, without spending soo much money at the salon. However, I do recommend having wigs installed professionally, for inexperienced wearers. I mostly would wear hair bundles. I began to suffer from Traction Alopecia from having my hair bundles installed too tight. So I’m a very big advocate on hair loss. That was a very devastating experience for me, to see bald spots. (I have pictures) Women need to be very cautious on how they install their hair to avoid Traction Alopecia. For women who have other types of Alopecia, don’t have to walk around bald. (Unless they choose to) Your hair is your beauty, and I believe women can wear hair extensions and wigs and still maintain, who they are inside. Protective styles are very important to the Black hair community, especially during summer and winter months. So, I provide human hair for the quality and sustainability for protective maintenance. I’ve also expanded my business into a clothing boutique called p48 style fashion boutique. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? My biggest challenge was having my vision displayed for my hairboss Queens. I went through different website companies, who promised to build me an awesome website, but I ended up spending soo much money on trying to find the right fit. After a year, I finally found an awesome team, that helped put my vision out on my website. I’ve had my websites hacked, bank information hacked all due to trusting the wrong people. Everyone is online shopping, so it’s definitely a plus for my kind of business. It’s hard convincing family and friends to stop putting money into low quality hair and enduring poor customer service to local hair stores, that don’t care. Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Purple48 Hair Collection and more LLC? I sell human hair wigs and hair extensions. The quality hair comes from Indian temples from India and China. I work exclusively close with my vendors, being that I have a close relationship with them, I am able to offer hair extensions at a reasonable price. Customer service is very important to me, so I treat my customers as to how I would like to be treated. My products are not to change the persona of character but help build exceptional high self-esteem. Black women wear wigs and hair extensions to protect their tresses not because they can’t grow their own hair. I have revamped my haircare line with a new hair growth oil that has natural seeds and herbs. I’ve partnered with a company called Fibonacci that provides products for maintaining the Quality of our wigs and hair extensions. I have expanded our business with a clothing boutique. We offer women’s clothing for all occasions, with modern and classy collections. Visit p48fashion.com for a sneak peek. I research the beauty and hair industry and have blogs on my hair website for informational purposes and reasons, to educate my hairboss Queens. I upload very frequently. I can be found on all social media sites such as IG, FB, TikTok and Twitter. I give away free products to those who need to look professional for a job interview, or just to look their best at work. I believe in giving back to the community. My brand purple48 is very unique. I love the color purple and it’s mentioned in the bible 48 times…. Thats were the name Purple48 came from. I thank God for the journey He has prepared for me, and I’m excited to help, encourage, engage and educate all women to pursue their own dreams to flourish in this world. Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
