What Is?!

  • 1. What is raw hair

Invest in your hair, it’s the crown you never take off! We only sell Virgin Remy or Raw hair because of the high quality. Purple48 Hair has tested many hair manufacturers, so that we have taken out all the guesswork that our customers would endure by themselves. Some customers can’t tell good quality hair and can easily buy cheap low-quality hair at an overpriced tag. Raw hair is unprocessed human hair, with no chemicals added to it. Known to be the best quality of human hair, each bundle comes directly from one single donor, so don’t expect each bundle to be the same. The hair goes through a sanitation process that removes any lice, debris, dirt, and is thoroughly checked for quality control by our manufacturer. Textures come in a straight, curly, or natural wave. Raw hair can be color customized to a 613 blonde and darker. We do not dye or alter Raw hair, that is solely up to the customer to customize when they receive it. The best part about Raw hair is there is no shedding or tangling. Raw hair is a great investment. Rather than deal with cheap and shabby synthetic hair, give yourself the freedom of having luscious locks that can be naturally colored, washed, curled, or flat-ironed. Most importantly, you can whip your hair back and forth like it’s all yours. Click here to read more

  • 2. How to Measure Your Head for Wig Size

Understanding the correct and basic measurements to get the right size wig is important. The more accurate the measurements, the better your unit will fit. Fix your hair completely back before measuring for:

    A) The circumference of your head.

    B) The front of your hairline to nape of your neck.

    C) Measure from ear-to-ear and across your hairline at the forehead.

    D) Measure from ear-to-ear and over the top of your head.

    E) Measure from temple-to-temple and behind back of your head.

    F) Message at the nape of your neck towards the back hairline.

  • 3. Wig Density Size Chart

    Wig Density Chart

    1. 50% = Extra Light Density.

    2. 80% = Light Density.

    3. 100% = Light to Medium Density.

    4. 130% = Medium Density.

    5. 150% = Medium to Heavy Density.

    6. 180% = Heavy Density.

You want in-between 130% to 180% density. Anything more will be very heavy and give an unrealistic look.Choose a shade that will neutralize your undertone. For example, cool-toned works best with warm-toned shades. Neutral, undertones go well with both cool-toned and warm-toned shades. The rule of determining what undertone you are, look at your veins. Purple or blue means you are cool and green veins are warm. If you can see both vein types you’re most likely neutral.

  • 4. Take measurements

The averages below are just to give you an example. Not everyone will meet these measurements – some may be under or over and that is perfectly fine.

    1. THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE HEAD:

Measure all around the head. Position tape measure so its edge follows the hair line around the head and nape of the neck.

    (Example Measurement: 22 inches)

    2. FROM FOREHEAD TO NAPE OF NECK:

With your head tilted down measure from hairline at center of forehead straight back over crown to center of hairline at nape of neck.

Keeping in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline on your skin. Then ADD a 1/2 inch to the measurement results. This is VERY IMPORTANT. If you do not add the ½ inch, your wig will be too small and will not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.

    (Example Measurement: 14 inches)

    3. EAR TO EAR ACROSS FRONT HAIRLINE:

At front of ear, measure from hairline at base of sideburn, up towards the top of the head and go a 1/2 inch behind the front hairline back down to the same point in front of other ear.

    (Example Measurement: 12 inches)

    4. FROM EAR TO EAR OVER TOP OF HEAD:

Measure from hairline directly above the ear across top of head to the hairline directly above the other ear.

    (Example Measurement: 13 inches)

    5. TEMPLE TO TEMPLE:

From temple to temple across the back of head. Place the tape measure at your temple to temple point on each side of your head as shown in the picture.

Keeping in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your natural hairline on your skin in this area as well. Then ADD a 1/2 inch to the measurement results. This is VERY IMPORTANT. If you do not add the inch, your wig will be too small and will not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.

    (Example Measurement: 14 inches)

    6. NAPE OF NECK:

Measure the width of hairline across the nape of the neck.

    (Example Measurement: 5 1/2 inches)

  • 5. How to choose the right Hair Color?

    1) Your complexion

The colour of your skin tone is actually one of the most important aspects of choosing the perfect hair colour. The correct colour will compliment your skin and make it appear even more beautiful, while the wrong colour might make your skin look dull and dreary.

    2) Your eyes

To really enhance and intensify your eye colour your colourist might opt for a contrasting colour. For instance - if your eyes are blue, a caramel or golden blonde tone will make them appear even bluer. If they are green, a fiery or soft red tone could be the perfect colour for you.

    3) Personal style

Once the hair colour has been narrowed down to suit your complexion and eye colour, your personal style should be considered - and this is where you know best. Do you want to be noticed, or blend in? Do you need to be more daring, or does your outfit say enough? Make sure the shades you and your colourist choose is one that will make you feel confident and yourself.

  • 6. How to Maintain your hair?
    1. Curly or Afro-textured hair probably wants frizz-minimizing or softening shampoo that is creamy and has natural oils in it.
    2. Straight or oily hair probably wants a gentle shampoo designed for daily washing.
    3. Coloured or treated hair probably needs a shampoo that's fortified with extracts or amino acids, because treating your hair is essentially damaging it.
    4. Dry hair probably needs shampoos with glycerin and collagen to fix dryness and help restore some moisture into the hair

Children are especially difficult when it comes to bathing, what more when you have to wash their hair! Once your child is more comfortable in the bath, then you can start to introduce hair washing. I have left off washing my daughter’s hair for a while, until necessary, but she still goes mad.

The typical hair and hair follicles of those of African descent are tightly curled, thus producing hair that spirals. Black hair also typically has a larger diameter than Caucasian hair and retains less water, thus its relative “kinkiness.” The many styling methods utilized on Black hair cause concern with hair loss. Black hair is very strong, fortunately so because Black hair styles cause a great deal of stress on the hair and scalp.

WHAT IS VIRGIN HAIR?

INVEST IN YOUR HAIR, IT’S THE CROWN YOU NEVER TAKE OFF!

Virgin hair is unprocessed human hair, with no chemicals added to it. Real quality human hair is called Remy, because of the hair cuticle alignment or the outermost layer of the hair shaft. “Remy” is virgin hair (collected from the donor) that has been kept in a way to preserve the alignment of the hair’s cuticles. These tresses maintain a smooth, silky texture, with no tangling and shedding.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Virgin hair is a great investment. Rather than deal with cheap and shabby synthetic hair, give yourself the freedom of having luscious locks that can be naturally colored, washed, curled or flat-ironed. Most importantly, you can whip your hair back and forth like it’s all yours. 100% virgin hair can come already dyed. It is not recommended to bleach or color this hair, since it has already been chemically treated. If you wish to have blonde or bleached colored hair, purchase hair that already comes in these colors.

DEFINITIONS

360 Degree Wig – the lace goes around the entire head, giving it a realistic look.

Closure – this hairpiece is used to cover or “close off” the top of the scalp and is secured around the edges (perimeter) of your hair. The material used is either silk or lace, which gives a natural and flawless look. Closures are mainly used for protecting your tresses while being attached to a corn roll base.

Cornrow – A hairstyle braided to the scalp in a uniform simple straight line, or a unique geometric or curvilinear pattern. It is mainly known as a protective hairstyle and is preferred for easy maintenance.

“Cornrows can be left in for weeks at a time if maintained through careful washing of the hair and natural oiling of the scalp.” (Reference: Wikipedia)“

Glueless Wig – is one you can snatch off your head at the end of the day.

Hair Bundle – means 1 piece or 1 pack of hair. The hair is bundled together once collected from the donor, and sewn onto a weft. Hair Bundle is the same as Hair Weave.

Hair Weave – see Hair Bundle.

Hair Weft – (plural wefts)(weaving) allows you to choose your attachment method. The hair weft comes in a curtain-like shape with double-sewn ends that can be used with methods such as weaving, micro-rings, glue, or clips. Single weft only has one line of hair, and double weft has two. For thick hair, a single weft is best, and for thin hair, a double weft is best. Wefts can be hand-tied or machine.

Hand-Tied Weft Hair – the individual strands are tied by hand to create a secure weft. This type of wefted hair extension creates a very strong, but much thinner weft when compared to machine weft hair. They also feel much lighter on your head, so you get a more natural experience, however, hand-tied weft hair is more expensive than machine weft hair.

Lace – is underneath the weave or wig. It shows as a “scalp” so it’s easy to part the hair, to the side, in the middle, or switch the direction of hair from left to right. It shows up as an illusion. Anything lace is installed with adhesives. It’s the SIZE of the lace that makes them unique. The bigger the lace, the farther back you can go to part the hair.

Lace Front or Lace Front Wig or Lace Full Wig – is a one-piece wig. Lace Front Wigs have a little part of lace that can well cover the hairline.

Lace Frontal – is a finishing piece to a sew-in install. It gives a natural look by eliminating the need to blend in and leave out your real hair. This method is a style that protects your hairline and edges.
Lace frontals come in weft lengths of 13 x 2, 13 x 4, and 13 x 6 inches. This gives ear to ear coverage, to give the options of parting the hair in different directions.
The lace comes in transparent or light brown – the only difference is the color. However, if you are desiring a very real and natural look, then a transparent lace is the way to go. It’s invisible and undetectable.
Frontals can be installed by hair glue or sewin, based on preference. By using the sewin method, the frontal can be installed using an invisible thread behind the hairline. How to tell a lace frontal from a lace closure is just the size.

Lace Full Wig – has the entire lace cap base, which can completely cover the entire head.

Mixed – means that the hair is from more than one donor.

Natural Color – “Black hair” has red undertones, so in the sun you will see more of a very, deep brown, but under natural light, it looks very dark. Natural color is easy to dye. Black dye is hard to color over.

Raw Hair – has not been altered by steam or chemical processing. It is the most natural, pure 100% authentic hair on the market. True Raw Hair is the ultimate choice of hair extensions. All hair cuticles are intact and naturally aligned in one direction, which prevents matting and tangling. Every bundle of Raw Hair is unique because each hand-cut ponytail from a donor has a distinct natural hair pattern.

Virgin Hair – chemically unprocessed human hair from a single donor. It is free from dyes, perms, bleaches, and hard washes. It is steamed processed to achieve different textures, such as body wave, deep wave, loose wave, water wave, kinky curly, etc.

WHAT IS ALOPECIA & HOW CAN IT BE TREATED?

  • Alopecia is hair loss that can be from the scalp or body. This can cause embarrassment, low self-esteem, and even depression. There are seven different types of this condition which are:

    1. Androgenetic alopecia- can occur in men and women and is also called “male pattern baldness”.
    2. Alopecia Areata- Noticed by small patches in the scalp that vary from 1/8 inch to 4 inches.
    3. Alopecia Universalis- Missing body and scalp hair.
    4. Diffuse Alopecia- Hair loss is sudden, affects young girls, and is very rare.
    5. Postpartum Alopecia- Temporary hair loss after childbirth.
    6. Alopecia Totalis- Starts very small then build up to total and complete hair loss.

The seventh type of Alopecia needs full awareness which is Traction alopecia.
Black women are more prone to Traction alopecia, with the use of chemicals, heat, and hairstyles that are too tight. Other issues, that can cause damage, is stress or a diagnosed medical illness. Symptoms of hair loss can be noticed by the following areas:

    • Front hairline, (Edges).
    • Crown of the head.
    • Over the entire head and either side around the head.
    • Noticeable thinning or patchy areas.

Using harsh chemicals can form scar tissue inside the hair follicles caused by burns from relaxers or perms. This type of damage is called Cicatricial alopecia or Scarring alopecia and can be permanent. Menopause can cause Androgenic alopecia that has dominating effects on Black women. This form of alopecia is also common in men and can be treated with sex hormones.

    THERE IS HOPE

Some forms of alopecia are not permanent and can be treated. Hair loss can be reversed in some cases if early action is taken. Serious hair loss should be consulted by your doctor or dermatologist for a professional evaluation and treatment options.

I MAY HAVE TRACTION ALOPECIA, NOW WHAT?

If you are experiencing hair loss due to traction alopecia, determine what the cause could be from. As mentioned above harsh chemicals or hairstyles that “pull” your tresses needs to stop! Take control of your situation. Give your hair a break and seek out the right hair care products for your specific hair type. I recommend using natural products like Beauty by Ahmari at www.beautybyahmari.com. These products help treat mild cases and maintain your tresses. I use them, and it works wonderfully with my natural hair. Wearing extensions such as weave or braids is not bad for your hair. It depends on how they are installed and how well you maintain your natural hair underneath. I strongly suggest you have a serious conversation with your beautician. If you know your hair is being pulled too tight and you start experiencing hair loss around your edges, it’s time to act. If the problem continues, I then recommend switching hairstylists.

Women suffering from extreme hair loss can explore our catalog of 100% Human hair, Glueless wigs. Mild cases can explore our other hair type options. Our aim at Purple48 is not to disguise or hideout natural beauty. Black women are encouraged to reveal their interpretation, that exists in their minds as a representation of themselves. Experience the joy and beauty of your flawless appearance; while your tresses are being treated and cared for underneath. No more embarrassing hair loss issues! You can show of Purple48 hair extensions, at weddings, graduations, and everyday occurrences.

HOW TO APPLY AND CARE FOR EYELASH STRIPS

False eyelashes are easy to apply (with practice) and give a finished and dramatic look to face makeup.

Synthetic strip lashes can be worn 4 or 5 times. By contrast, mink strip eyelashes, with proper care, can be worn up to 20 times.

Keep your natural eyelashes clean with eye makeup remover or tear-free baby shampoo. The shampoo has been known to cause dry eyes in some people.

Proper application, removal, and storage of false eyelashes reduces the chances of eye infection, and increases the lifetime of the product.

Strip eyelashes are not meant to be worn while sleeping
